Media: Portray of Sex and Violence & its effects on society

Media: the Portrayal of Sex
and Violence & its affects on society

Sex in the Media
Media portrayal of sex is unrealistic, it is glamorized and can lead one to believe that sex is always casual and consequence-free. The large amount of sexual content in media seems to be having a variety of negative effects on adolescents thoughts and behaviors.

Violence in the Media

Today we can see stories of violence in every newspaper, television channels, radios and videos. Everyday crime takes place and it has a great influence on society. Media shows a lot of violence on TV because the viewers love watching it, for example these reality TV shows.

Also, films encourage violence since the film makers want to earn money they produce violent films. These violent movies attract more youth and children to watch the movies and later in future it encourages them to do such violence in the name of heroism. Its become a trend of people to believe what information is being portrayed by the media, be it right or wrong the public will go along with the flow.
    Examples of Sex related themes:
A naked woman advertising for Budweiser in a magazine & commercial.

Miley Cyrus music video "wrecking bomb" has scenes of her without clothes.
magazines such as King that have sexual display can be pick up or scene by kids or teens.

Conclusion
    What is Media?
Media is the mode of communication that acts as a link between the people and the various issues happening in society. It is the source that is intended to reach large audiences through mass communication and is sometimes considered entertainment.

   A few Types of Media
-Social Media
-News Media
-Radio
-Magazines
-Film Media

   Sex plays an
important role in media. Media advertise sex because "Sex Sales".

and this can range from the selling of clothing to candy. This is one of the many video games
that promote violence.

Very Popular
Media is all around us in this world, it is used as a tool to communicate with everyone about what is going on in the world and although it is reliable, at many times it has a negative impact. Today the media is very big on portraying and advertising sex and violence. Teens rank the media as the leading source of information about sex and the amount of violence that plays on TV is on the rise with an average of 12,000 children seeing violent acts annually.

Television, News reporting, Video, Pornography, Video and computer games effect the general psyche/mental thinking of the people in general. All the different types of media mentioned and known can be shared by many social networks such as Facebook and twitter. Sex and Violence plays an important role in media and it can have a negative affect on society because they are the ones believing, seeing, and reacting to the things seen on media.
Misrepresentation
Advertising aims to present a product in the best light possible. There is some leeway in the creative process. As the Gecko in the Geiko ads says, "That's just a dramatization, of course," referring to the idea that if you ask Geiko representatives for an English muffin, they'll serve one up toasted with butter and jam. The problem arises when the dramatization crosses the line into falsely representing a product. Hefty fines can result from false advertising when levied by the Federal Trade Commission.
Unrealistic Expectations
False Images
Children

Media's Negative advertisement

Direct-to-consumer advertising for prescription drugs has resulted in unrealistic expectations about the effectiveness of drugs and their side-effects, according to the Food and Drug Administration's study "Patient and Physician Attitudes and Behaviors Associated With DTC Promotion of Prescription Drug." Voice-overs give the downside to the drug, but the visual images show healthy, happy people. It's not unusual to hear that even death may be a side-effect of a prescription drug. Beauty and health products may also not live up to their promises, resulting in wasted consumer dollars. Disclaimers are often hidden in very small print on product packaging and in out-of-the way spots in ads.

Advertising is ingrained in American culture, from children's programs on Saturday morning to talk shows and prime time TV. Advertising even invades movies through product placement. It's not an accident when a movie hero holds up a can of Coke instead of Pepsi. Advertising influences how people feel about themselves -- often in a negative way. Based on the images they see in advertising, women often feel they should be thin and beautiful and hold down full-time jobs while also being full-time mothers. Advertising communicates that men should be handsome, tall, athletic, caring husbands, thoughtful fathers and virile at all times. These images are often unrealistic and unattainable.

In his study "Review of Research on the Effects of Food Promotion to Children," Professor Gerard Hastings found there is a link between food advertising and children's preferences regarding what they will consume. Ads for many sugary cereals encourage children to ask their parents for those particular products -- regardless of whether the products are good for the children. It's not coincidental that the most heavily advertised toys during the holiday season end up being the top sellers. Children are susceptible to advertising.

Examples of Sexual content in media:

-  Porn Websites
-  Off the charts Men's Magazines
-  Erotic Novels

Sexual Content can be in the form Image or Video. It is always rated R and does not allow any one younger than 18 to view it.

Examples of Violence in the media:

-   Hardcore

-   Blood and Gore
-   Death and Torture

 -   Tokyo Ghoul

News media can be the main source for information regarding recent things that happened locally or nationally such as crime.
